Private Inshore Fishing Charter (eg: Yellowtail or Snoek)

Simon's Town

Activity Description

This charter option is for those who wish to hire the whole boat privately, instead of having to share the boat with people whom they may not know.

Our Inshore Fishing excursion gives you and your friends/family the chance to catch whichever fish are available on the day. Typically, this could include Yellowtail, Katonkel, Snoek or a variety of reef fish.

Yellowtail are the most popular catch. They are also known as “Yellowtail Kingfish” are found in big shoals around Cape Point and surrounding areas. They put up a great fight and are commonly served as “catch of the day” in most restaurants, making this fish species one of our favorite to target!

Katonkel are often caught when there are Yellowtail around. This fish also puts up a good fight, although it is slightly smaller than the typical Yellowtail.

Snoek are seasonal, but can be abundant when they arrive! One of the most exciting fish to catch, as they will literally bite anything shiny when they are around! For their weight, they will really challenge you as you try to bring them in!

You may customise your trip to suit your group. Your Captain and Guide, Alan, will be happy to advise you on a suitable itinerary, and will take you to the most likely places to catch the fish of your choice.

Trip lengths are typically 6 or 7 hours, with starting times varying according to the seasons.

Our boat is a brand new 28’ GeCat, with ample shelter, comfortable seating and an onboard toilet. A walkaround configuration allows you to sit in front of the boat or the back, as you prefer. Limited numbers can also view the sights from our rooftop viewing platform, with seating for 3 passengers.

The presence of small baitfish such as anchovy and squid, indicate that the game fish are not far away. The seabirds usually indicate to the fishermen exactly where the fish are to be caught. Yellowtail usually chases the bait to the surface of the water, which results in the seabirds swooping down and competing with the game fish for their food.

Yellowtail is currently listed as a green species by SASSI, meaning they are a sustainable fish species to target!
