Private Charter Scenic Marine Eco-Tours (eg: Seal Island or Dolphin Watching)

Simon's Town

Activity Description

False Bay has some beautiful sights, which are best viewed from a boat. Thousands of people visit the most South Westerly tip of Africa each year, but very few have the chance to experience it from from the sea!

Sir Francis Drake described Cape Point as the most beautiful place he had ever visited! During our scenic marine eco-tours, we can be sure of seeing a variety of thrilling vistas, which could include dramatic sea cliffs, islands and rocks covered in seals or cormorants, huge numbers of wild birds, and exciting sights of seals, dolphins, whales and penguins playing and hunting in the water.

You may customise your trip to suit your group, timing and preferences, and take into account the seasons and recent wildlife sightings. Your Guide, Alan, will be happy to advise you on a suitable itinerary.

Trip lengths may vary from 2 to 4 hours, according to your preferences.

Our boat is a brand new 28’ GeCat, with ample shelter, comfortable seating and an onboard toilet. A walkaround configuration allows you to sit in front of the boat or the back, as you prefer. Limited numbers can also view the sights from our rooftop viewing platform, with seating for 3 passengers.

You can discuss and plan your preferred itinerary with Captain Alan before you leave the harbour. Options include:

  • Seal Island, where 70 000 cape fur seals are resident, many of them playing in the surf as we pass by. This is also where you may see visiting great white or seven gilled sharks.
  • Cape Point, where the oceans meet, with its two lighthouses, crashing waves and beautiful lonely beaches. A unique way to see and photograph Cape Point without the queues, crowds or busses.
  • The wild western False Bay marine reserves, which are closed to entry from the land. Look out for seals, dolphins, whales, seabirds, penguins, and other endangered species.
  • The small isolated Smitswinkel Bay community, which has its own bay, no roads and very few visitors.
  • Buffels Bay, which is a sheltered bay where fishermen often can be found chasing the yellowtail, snoek fish or squid (calamari). There is a resident baboon colony living there who eat mussels and shellfish, but prefer to steal picnic lunches from people who are on land!
  • The coastline from Muizenberg to Castle Rock. See the colourful seaside communities of Muizenberg, St James, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, Glencairn, Simonstown, Seaforth, Millers Point and Castle Rock from the unusual angle of the sea!

If you are prone to seasickness, please make sure you take seasick medication in advance.

Please note that if snacks are provided, these may not be Halaal, and may have traces of nuts in them. If you have any specific dietary preferences, please either notify the Tour Company in advance so they can try to accommodate your requests, or kindly make your own specific arrangements.
