Cape Town

Activity Description

RELIGION? POLITICS? ECONOMY? TRADITIONS? HOPES? THE FUTURE? We begin in the Bo-Kaap with a drive through the Malay Quarter and a visit to the District Six Museum (closed Sundays), then on to the Cape Flats where we go to Langa, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha & Crossroads, including a visit to a local shebeen for a taste of sorghum beer, the meat market, the men’s hostels, a local creche, a herbalist and a craft centre.

This is an interactive tour and you will have the opportunity to speak to the local residents and possibly even be invited into their homes.
Some quotes from those who’ve been:

“A fascinating trip – a real eye opener to the ‘true Africa’. What amazing people. A memorable morning – Thanx” Emma (London)

“Really excellent. Put a lot of pre-conceived perceptions to rest learning about the reality. Much enjoyed.” Ryan

Customer Reviews

Probably the best of the tours for many different reasons, the elder was excellent at getting across his culture and the lives they lead with all aspects covered, great guiding by selly too! Very nice guy! It was so nice for our 13 year old to see that not everybody is as privileged and to see and understand first hand how some people live and the story of their lives both culturally and physically was so refreshing and interesting on many levels! Shelly said that if you were only doing one tour on your trip, that you should do the cape point trip, I disagree! If you are only doing one trip, you should do the township tour trip, you can see mountains, sea, penguins, roads, visitor centres in loads of places, you won’t see this township in loads of places! Great tour - Mike

Quite interesting this townshiptour. First I hesitated to book it. Because I will not look at people like animals in a zoo. But this tour is very respectful to the locals. It give you an inside look. The guide himself was a local. The District six museum is a must. It gives a lot of information about what happened to the people how it influenced daily life during apartheid. - Anna

Hello, we are now back in Germany. It was a very intresting trip to Township Langa. We get a lot of Informations and Impressions. Very warm thank you to the Guides. Greetings from Wiesbaden Irmgard Zimmermann - Zimmermann

The time at District Six Museum was a Little short. The two visits at townships were realy good. Both guides (in the minibus and the local i Langa) were perfect and very informative. Nice that the guide in the minibus live in Langa and was able to tell local storys. - Anna
