Guided bicycle tour through Stellenbosch

Activity Description

This tour combines the beautiful scenery and sites of Historic Stellenbosch with excellent wine pairings and some healthy outdoor exercise.

The tour starts 9:00 at Adventureshop (located at Blackhorse Centre, Corner of Dorp and Mark Street). Each rider will collect a bike and helmet to suit their size. E-Bikes also available. We will carry a snack pack for each rider and the guide will have space in the backpack for those who would like to buy wine en-route.
The tour starts with a historic tour of Stellenbosch, visiting some of the historic sites in town. We will cycle through Stellenbosch and head to the scenic Jonkershoek Valley. A winding road through oak and poplar forests will take you to a wine estate nestled in the valley bottom, here you can take in the stunning views while doing wine tasting of award winning wines on an island in a lake.
On the way out of the valley, you will stop at another wine estate which sports beautiful grounds and historic Cape Dutch architecture. Here we will do a cellar tour before we start our Chocolate and Wine pairing that will make your taste buds tingle.

After the tasting we will head back into Stellenbosch Town via the Stellenbosch University before ending the tour again at our office

There are some variations to the route, with varying levels of difficulty so the tour can be tailored to suit your cycling ability. Family tours can also be booked.
NEW: Option to do the tour on an E- bike at an additional cost of R150 per bike

Children under 5 years are free (cycle in baby seat with parents). Children who cycle on their own, full rate. Children will do Chocolate and Ice tea tasting.

Customer Reviews

This is a great way to experience and learn more about Stellenbosch. The ride is very scenic and fairly easy. The wine farms we visited were beautiful and the wine tastings were great! I would definitely recommend this tour. - Deborah Longmore

Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The guide was very engaging, the two vineyards we visited were fantastic and the wine was delicious. The Stellenbosch area is stunning and cycling is an ideal way to appreciate it. - Sallie Stephenson

Excellent bike tour - great route through the town and then two wonderful wineries! Even in the rain we had a great time. The guide was very knowledgeable and once we told him we like flora he taught us even more. - Penny Sloman

The guide was friendly, professional, friendly and he changes the route accordingly to situation (the level of team fitness), we really enjoyed the experience overall and would do this again if we are back at Stellenbosch! - Marisa Gambir

Stellenbosch Cycling Tour. The directions to the cycle shop were very good; we located it straight away. The bikes were in very good condition. Sevo was our guide and he was full of "useless information". His phrase, not ours. Nothing Sevo says could be considered useless; he was well-informed and very personable. We were a middle-aged couple joined by another couple, approximately 25 years younger, but Sevo managed our different levels of fitness very well. We had a safety briefing before heading off. We were given a concise history of the town at various locations, which was very interesting; and then cycled approximately 5km to our first vineyard in the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve. Oh my word; the landscape at Stark-Conde was glorious. We had each of the wines described to us and we were happy to purchase a bottle before leaving. At Lanzerac, we enjoyed a cellar tour. Sevo knew his stuff, and we learnt a lot about why we like particular wines. Then we did chocolate and wine pairing, something that I would not have dreamed of. After this, we enjoyed a leisurely cycle ride back to base via the residential outskirts of the town. A great introduction to the Western Cape. Thanks Sevo! - Tracey Atmore
