Customer Reviews

We had a lovely trip on Ceres Rail to Simon's Town. Comfortable carriages, with a lovely selection in the bar and snack carriages. We were always informed of where we were and what was happening. Lovely conversations with informed, knowledgeable and well skilled staff. - Symantha

Unforgettable family experience. Everything was handled so professionally and easily. All we had to do was book, show up, and enjoy the scenic steam train ride to Simon's Town. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The train carriages and locomotive are so beautifully cared for, it really feels like you're being transported back in time. The actual train journey was also incredibly fun, a good way to slow down and spend time with the family, and take in the beautiful surroundings of the Cape. I highly recommend this for the whole family! - Gerrita

What a fabulous experience. Highly recommended. - Geraldine

The Explorer Series #1 Atlantic Rail steam train trip to Simon's Town is one of the great Cape Town experiences. As a resident of both Cape Town and Simon's Town, the route is not novel. But to do it in the nostalgic comfort of old SAR&H coaches, seated on the familiar green leather, peering through Springbok-engraved windows at the ever-changing mountain and sea vistas, pulled by puffing and tooting Clare, whilst sipping the odd glass of cold white, is indeed novel and delightful. The cheerful and helpful volunteer personnel added to the delight. Thank you. To those who have not yet done this trip, whether you are local or new to Cape Town, go at once. As an afterthought, a shorter option on only the Southern line from say Maitland to Simon's Town and back might suit those pressed for time and averse to early rising! - Billy

We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The main reason we booked was to take my 8 year old grandson as he has never been on a train and he had an absolute ball so was worth it for us. - Sandy
