Activity Overview:
Whether you are looking for an educational, heartfelt, or relaxed experience, the Captivated by Chardonnay tour promises to exceed your expectations.
This one hour underground tour is divided into three parts. Visitors will start by learning where Chardonnay is produced in the world and how it spread to the Robertson Valley. Secondly, the tour will focus on the winemaker’s philosophy, the hand of the artisan, and why he pursues an elegant, unpretentious style in Chardonnay. Lastly, visitors will move to the deepest part of the underground tour where they will be looking at the history of wine dating back to 500 years B.C. The tour ends with a poetry reading, written by Philip Jonker, while visitors sip on the exclusive Poet’s Prayer Chardonnay.
This tour is an in-depth experience of the essence of Chardonnay, geography, geology, history, and hope. Visitors can experience all of this while savouring this noble cultivar in the dimly lit underground wine tanks.
24 hour booking required.
Regrettably no kids allowed.

This was our second visit to Weltevrede. We enjoyed the wine tasting which was hosted by a very enthused and knowledgeable member of your team. - David
The tasting experience was excellent in a wonderful setting and quite a novel, guided tour concept, walking through atmospheric cellars with periodic pauses for tasting the wines. The personality of the owner shone through in this tour and indeed all of the estate's activities, not least as the writer of much of the material in the tour, including I think the poem that concludes it. We never met him but I got the strong impression of a force of nature, eccentric maybe even a little mad, but also a sort of a perfectionist genius, not least in the wines the estate produces which are seriously good. This was maybe the most impressive winery we visited during our stay, so good we came back next day for lunch in their restaurant- and that was another example of the ambition of this place, a very serious restaurant with innovative food. Highly recommended. - Mark
